Piedmont Pines

Piedmont Pines feels like a hidden secret resting in the shadow of Pinehurst. Built in 1956, Piedmont Pines is one of those courses that has changed very little over time — and that’s to its credit. Designed by Ellis Maples, the course spills across a canvas of longleaf pines and red clay ridges, its fairways bending naturally with the land.

The front-nine holes present a challenge that can go toe-to-toe with some of the better known courses to the South. The back nine is more forgiving, which offers golfers a chance to soak in the experience of playing through North Carolina pine forests.

The crown jewel of the course is Hole 16, a 342-yard, Par 4 with a tight fairway flanked by intricate bunkers on the right hand side, and hundred-year old pines on the left. It’s quintessential North Carolina golf, and if that’s up your alley you won’t find much better.
